National Indoor Championships 2011

This years National Indoor Championships in Telford was once again well attended by archers from Northamptonshire.

Saturday 3rd December was the Junior event, the format once again a single Portsmouth round.

Bradley Denny of Archers of Raunds finished in 6th place in the Gents Recurve Under 16’s with a great score of 562. Bradley was last years Under 14’s national champion having now moved up into the next age group.

In the Ladies Recurve Under 16’s, Katie Bayliss also of Archers of Raunds shot very well and finished in 8th place with 525. Lauren Phillips also of AOR placed 13th with 469, very closely followed in 14th by Leonie Allen of Targetcraft also on 469 but with 1 less gold.

Katherine Langton of Wicken Archery Club placed 7th in the Ladies Recurve Under 12’s with 441.

Jon Bull of Targetcraft placed 5th in the Gents Compound Under 18’s with a great score of 579.

Josh Hall of WOAC shot very well and placed 2nd in the Gents Compound Under 16’s with 571.

The senior event format once again like last year consisted of a qualifying round where the top 32 archers go through to the knock-out stages.

Lizzie Cantopher of WOAC shooting in her first indoor nationals, continued her great indoor season by qualifying in 15th place in the Ladies Recurve with 530. Lizzie shot well in her first round match but only won one set to lose 6-2 to Hannah Beasley-Suffolk of Malvern Archers.

In the Gents Recurve division. Gyorgy Zsiga of Long Buckby AC was the counties highest placed archer qualifying in 22nd place with 549. Despite shooting well, Gyorgy lost his first round match 6-5 to John Prior of Supermarine Bowmen. Dean Edwards of WOAC was unable to continue his recent good form finishing 37th with 539 so not qualifying for the knock-out stages. Neither did David Forster of Nene Bowmen who placed 39th with 536. James Mason of WOAC was forced to retire during the qualifying round.

In Gents Compound, Josh Hall of WOAC took part in his first senior nationals finishing in 61st place out of 100 with an excellent 560. His dad Gary Hall placed 82nd despite having a release aid problem. Paul Blamire also of WOAC placed 49th with 566.

In the Ladies Compound, Jude Hall shooting in her first nationals qualified for the knock-out stages in 30th place with 546, setting up a first round match against GB team member Andrea Gails. Jude found herself two sets down at 4-0 but managed to pull the match back to 5-5! This meant a one arrow shoot off which was decided by just half a millimetre difference in favour of Andrea. Helen Neumann of WOAC also shooting in her first Nationals placed 39th with 523.
