Junior Nationals 2014
Northants Juniors turned up in force to the National Junior Outdoor Championships, held at Lilleshall on the 5th and 6th July. A total of 14 Juniors from Corby Archers, Archers of Raunds and Banbury Cross Archers had a very successful and enjoyable weekend, probably the most juniors Northants has ever seen attend, which was great to see.
On the Saturday they shot Metric rounds with some of the Corby Archers gaining top 3 positions. Sophia Eaves took the Barebow trophy in the Junior Ladies Metric V, Finley Lancashire coming 2nd in the Jnr Gents Recurve Metric IV and Isabelle Croyden coming 3rd in the Jnr ladies Barebow Metric IV. Katie Bayliss of Archers of Raunds was just outside the medals in 4th in the Jnr Ladies Metric II.
Sunday saw another good showing with Sophia again winning the Barebow Bristol V and Finley again coming 2nd in the Recurve Bristol IV. Northants were placed 5th overall out of 28 counties represented in the County Mixed Recurve competition with 4623 points, made up of Finley Lancashire (1194), Ruby Paul (1174), Neve Spence (1131) and Lyla Lancashire (1124), this is probably the highest position Northants has ever achieved at the Junior Nationals. Congratulations all.

A great few days for Brad!
Great Britain’s youth teams netted one gold and two silver medals at the European Youth Cup in Moscow yesterday – adding to the three team honours already secured by the team!
Bradley Denny of Archers of Raunds, along with Joe Ground and Jack Masefield powered through shoot-offs with both Italy and Russia to land a cadet recurve gold medal clash with Germany – and they took the honours in fine style, winning 6-2.
Also, a few days ago it was announced that Brad, along with Bryony Pitman have been selected by the British Olympic Association to represent Great Britain at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing.
The pair, both 17, will be among 33 British athletes competing across 14 sports for the Games, which run from 16 to 28 August.
Youth Olympics call-up for Bradley and Bryony
Bradley and Bryony secured their places during the World Youth Archery Championships in Wuxi last year. But what could it mean for them? As well as finding out more about the Chinese culture, the Olympic Movement and its values, they will be mixing with around 3,600 athletes from 200 nations.
Bradley said: “Nanjing is going to be fantastic experience for me and I’m so proud to have been selected to represent Team GB at the Youth Olympic Games. It’s a big multi-sport event, which is rare for archery, so it’s a chance to meet and learn from so many other athletes. Hopefully it can be a stepping-stone for my dream to, one day, compete at the Olympics.”
