Owen makes England team for Commonwealth Euro Nations!

Owen Murray from Bicester Archers has been selected to shoot for England in the Commonwealth Euro Nations match being held in Cardiff on 1st – 3rd August 2014.

Owen shoots in the Cadet age group (14-17), has been shooting for 6 years. He decided in 2012 after the Olympics to apply for the new Archery GB Academy system, and after 14 months of selection processes he was awarded a place on the Southern Academy in August 2013.

Owen has progressed quickly after joining the Academy and had good results indoors at the JNIC in Coventry coming 6th in the U16 age group and he then continued this on at The 3rd leg of The World Indoor Cup event in Telford in January.

He qualified for the event in 26th place but unfortunately lost out in the 1st round of the H2H matches to the much more experienced and eventual Silver Medalist David Van Der Spek, who had travelled from Canada to shoot.

Owens has started the outdoor season with lots of new PBs and several county records. He has also got his first Archery GB qualifying score in a Metric 1 at the Stafford Junior FITA.

Commenting on his achievement, Owen said “I am very proud to be selected to shoot for England and I hope to do everyone proud who knows me and who has helped to support my archery. I also hope to continue my progress and be able to get the other two qualifying scores to enable me to be selected for the EAF and Archery GB teams for international events next year.”
