A great weekend for Jon at the UK Masters

A great weekend for Jon at the UK Masters

On Saturday 1st June, the Masters Tournament was held in very windy conditions at Lilleshall. The Compound archers started the weekend with a 50m 720 ranking round and Jon Bull of Targetcraft was ranked 6th. In the afternoon he took part in the head to heads, having a bye in the 1/32. He won his 1/16 match and was then drawn against Chris White. Whilst a close match Jon won with 138 to 136. He then had to face Duncan Busby, the match was tied at 134 each with Jon winning in a one arrow shoot off. Into the last 4 Jon beat Mike Alexander 138 to 132 to find himself in the Final against Adam Ravenscroft. Despite quite a crowd willing him to do well Jon narrowly lost the match 143 to 139.

On Suday he shot a Gents FITA, still in very windy conditions and secured 10th place.

With the combined points added from the two days Jon had 18 National Series points, and finished the weekends competition in 4th place overall . Jon will be competing in all but one of the National Series this year, the Oxford date clashing with his next GB Selection Shoot!

This follows the previous weekend GB selection shoot at Lilleshall which was to choose the Junior teams to go to Romania in the 2nd leg of the Euopean Cup and the first of the selection shoots to go to China later this year to take part in the Junior World Championships. Jon qualified for the Romania trip, setting a new PB in the 50m round of 687 and then winning all but one of his head to head matches, again setting a new PB of 146 for 15 arrows.

Jon represented Team GB in Slovenia earlier this year winning a Team Silver and mixed team bronze medal.

Other Northants archers competing at the Masters last weekend were:

Lizzie Catopher of WOAC – 18th
John Inkley of Nene Bowmen – 32nd
