Congratulations to those Northants archers who made it onto this years Archery GB UK Target Ranking Lists.
To qualify, archers must complete three ladies/gents WA 1440 rounds and two WA 70m rounds all from shoots with World or UK Record Status. If more rounds than required are shot, the best scores are submitted. In addition archers are required to shoot an associated Olympic round head to head, but the score is not included in the total.
Lizzie Cantopher of NAC topped off a great season finishing in 12th place in the Ladies Recurve list. Susan Coreless of NAC finished 25th in the Ladies Compound list in just her first season after switching from Recurve. Also in the Ladies Compound list, Frances Bull of Targetcraft Archers finished in 38th place. In the Gents Compound list, James Mason also of NAC, made it into the top 10 in 7th place. Jon Bull of Targetcraft made the top 20 in 18th place. And Ian Hannaford of NAC ended up 97th in the Gents Recurve list.
Northants Archers Lizzie Cantopher of Northampton AC and Jon Bull of Targetcraft Archers, took part in the Nottingham Building Society, National Series Grand Final this weekend, 30th & 31st August, at the spectacular Wollaton Hall.
The Grand Final is made up of eight archers for each discipline; Gents Recurve, Ladies Recurve, Gents Compound and Ladies Compound. To qualify, the archers must gain enough points from several series events during the summer, with the top eight making it through.
On the Saturday, Lizzie shot fantastically well in the Ladies Recurve event. Making it to the semi finals and eventually winning the bronze medal by beating Ruth Welsh 6-2. When asked about her achievement she said: “It’s brilliant, I didn’t think I could do it and it just shows that archery is not just for young people.” ”It just shows what you can do when you break out of your comfort zone. It doesn’t matter how old you are, anything is achievable!” She also thanked her coach, Maggie Squires.
Jon shot in the Gents Compound event on the Sunday, but was beaten 146-134 by Matt Arnold in their quarter final match.
Both Jon Bull and Bradley Denny have won team medals for Great Britain at the European Outdoor Youth Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia!
The GB Recurve cadets team of Brad, Joe Ground and Jack Masefield, beat Turkey in the gold medal match with a 5-3 victory. Having beaten Czech Republic 6-0, Russia 6-2 and the Netherlands 6-2 along the way.
The Compound junior team of Jon Bull, Jake Burn and Jordan Mitchell, beat the Italian team in the quarter final 230-223 and then Russia 227-222 in the semi’s to reach the gold medal final. The Swedish team were just a little to strong for them in the end, so it was Silver for them on the day.
Jon Bull had a great tournament overall, just missing out on an individual medal finishing in fourth place losing 144-135 to Christos Aerikos of Greece in the bronze medal match.
Jon Bull of Targetcraft Archers has been selected to represent GB again this year in the Junior Compound team.
The conditions at Lilleshall on 12th & 13th April were again difficult with swirling winds and low temperatures. The GB Junior Compound team remains the same as last year, Jon Bull, Jake Burn and Jordan Mitchell. Just five points separated these three after 12 dozen arrows in the ranking round followed by 6 head to head matches.
Jon will be taking part in the European Championships in Slovenia in May and the European Cup later in the year in Russia.
Jon has also qualified to take part in the Senior Compound selection shoot to be held again at Lilleshall in May.
Bradley Denny of Archers of Raunds also qualified for Slovenia on the day in the Cadet category. Having already qualified for the senior GB team for first World Cup event of the year in Shanghai.
