Our thanks go to the host club The Bowmen of Rutland who provided excellent hospitality and perfect weather conditions. The smaller than normal number of archers involved in the match enabled the shooting of what is possibly the fastest WA1440 in history! We commenced at 9am, had lunch at 11.30 and were packed away awaiting the results at 15.30.
Just 22 archers took to the field with 10 of those from Northants. Of those 10 both Frances Hobbs and Vivien Lane were representing the County for the first time and shot well, against more experienced opposition, narrowly missing out in victories in their respective categories.
The size of both teams and the lack of archers in certain categories meant that the team captains had to compromise on team structures and whose scores could be taken into consideration.
The final result was an excellent win for NCAS with a score of 7, 241 against 6,661 for Leicester & Rutland. There were some outstanding individual performances and a good number of PBβs. Iulia Petre (Ladies Compound) shot the highest score of the day with 1366 and other highlights were as follows:
Gents Compound
NCAS win β Jon Bull 1347
Gents Longbow
NCAS win β Mark Bennet 476
Gents Barebow
NCAS win β Derek Bett 1082
As we all know, the taking part is more important than the result but it is much nicer when you take part and win! Our thanks go again to The Bowmen of Rutland for being wonderful hosts, we also take this opportunity to thank L&RCAA for arranging the match, and the judges for enabling an early finish. But most of all a huge thank you to all those County archers who attended the match and did NCAS proud.
