NCAS Dawn til Dusk Challange Update

NCAS Dawn til Dusk Challange Update

We’re just 2 months away from the 2024 NCAS Dawn til Dusk Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK, taking place on 14th July hosted by Towcester Archers at Towcestrians Sports Club, Greens Norton Road, Towcester NN12 8AW.

The total raised so far is a fantastic £866!!! But we need your help if we’re going to smash our target of £2,000!

The previous Dawn til Dusk events in 2015 and 2019 were truly fantastic and memorable occasions, and we would very much like this one to be just as successful in terms of raising funds of a wonderful cause, being a brilliant day spent in the company of archers from all over the county (and beyond), and all in memory of some amazing and greatly missed people who were very dear to the county.

There is no pressure to attempt to shoot for the entirety for the day, archers may enter and shoot 1, 2, 3 or all 4 rounds. Those who do want to attempt the challenge of shooting all 4 rounds will shoot up to 348 arrows by the end of the day!

The entry fee is a simple minimum donation of £15 to take part, regardless of how many rounds you shoot.

The day is meant for all levels, with senior novice archers (those who completed their beginners course no earlier than 1st January 2023) able to choose to shoot 40 yard rounds. (Windsor 40, Western 40, National 40, Warwick 40) or above. Otherwise it’s preferred that archers shoot the correct rounds for their age group, but this is a charity shoot at the end of the day and if archers prefer to shoot out of category that’s problem.

Rounds:
Windsor (inc. Windsor 50, 40 & 30) – sighters at 05:30am
Western (inc. Western 50, 40 & 30) – sighters at 10:30am approx
National (inc. National 50, 40 & 30) – sighters at 15:00pm approx
Warwick (inc. Warwick 50, 40 & 30) – sighters at 18:45pm approx
The start times may change depending on how quickly we get through the rounds on the day.

As per the previous NCAS Dawn til Dusk Challenge events there won’t be medals awarded for placings, but there will be a ‘little something’ as a thank you for taking part, and some spot prizes during the rounds. A results sheet will be emailed out and available on the NCAS website. NCAS county records will be eligible on the day.

There will be a raffle on the day with some really fantastic prizes so far including…
– A group tour for up to six people, of the Aston Martin Formula One factory at Silverstone!
– A ‘sports vision assessment’ including eye dominance, reaction timing assessment, colour vision testing and advice that is sports specific (value £695) using a system developed for Olympic and Elite athletes and sports men/women. Courtesy of Davis Optometrists in Kettering.
– Two tickets to the first Vice Presidents lunch of the 2024/25 Rugby season at Towcestrians Sports Club.
Plus a number of other great prizes available on the day.

There are 2 steps to enter…

STEP 1… first make a donation to the fundraising page (link below), which will be your entry fee. We’re asking for a minimum donation of £15. This can be a single one-off donation, or you can join the fundraising team and raise your own sponsorship on top of your donation by clicking ‘Join the team‘, and then ‘Create a new Giving Page‘. Obviously the more participants that take part and raise sponsorship the better.

STEP 2… Once you have made the donation, submit the online form to complete your entry: http://www.ncasarchery.org.uk/dawn-til-dusk-2024/

Once the form is submitted you’ll receive confirmation of your entry within 1-2 days.

If you would like more information about the event, please send an email to: competitions@towcesterarchers.co.uk

NCAS and Towcester Archers will welcome any help from volunteers. There will be plenty of jobs including setting up the field the night before, field party on the day, collecting scoresheets, selling raffle tickets, and helping with the have-a-go.

Best of luck and we hope to see you on 14th July!

2021 NCAS Charity Shoot Update

2021 NCAS Charity Shoot Update

The following has previously been sent out to clubs, but for those who might not have seen it, or who’s clubs have not yet responded to Helen, please have a read and encourage your clubs to take part if they are in a position to do so. It’s for a fantastic cause.

“Following on from some queries regarding a couple of matters, I felt it now appropriately timed to update everyone.

As you are aware I have been planning this years county charity shoot which was going to be similarly run to the event in 2019.

However, as we are coming out of restrictions and clubs/archers being at different stages and levels of confidence, I have spoken to key members of NCAS regarding changes and ways to best hold an event but differently for 2021.

So with this in mind it is my intention to invite any club in the county between the 5/6/21 and 4/7/21 to host their archers to shoot and make a donation to the charity collection.

It has been agreed that we will shoot for only 1 charity this year – Cransley Hospice.

If clubs would like to contact me to register their interest and I can collate the details and fundraising on behalf of the county.
I would like to leave the choice of round to each club along with selecting the date of their event to ensure it is the best option for their members who wish to take part.

My second item is in regards to Christine Marshall. Many of us would have attended the funeral in person if conditions had allowed.
Chris was a dear friend to many of us and those of us that knew her well know she was a planner.

Following one of our regular communications, this one on New Year’s Eve, as I was given some instructions, I had to make contact with key members of the county to update them. During those calls conversations were had that if we could manage to get together once more to chat with Chris, but as we had suspected time did not allow this.
Knowing this may be the case we had also discussed other options and I did speak with Chris regarding these ideas.

As is tradition we will be hosting a volley and this will still go ahead. I have spoken with the family and as a club and county we will be arranging this for a time that is suitable as we come out of lockdown. It is something that I also briefly discussed with AGB in the early new year to ensure that I can safely make arrangements for archers to do what we do to mark our respects to a beloved friend that we have lost.

I will release details as arrangements are made but I wished, at this time, for those not already aware of the plans being put in place, to be reassured that it has not been missed.”

Kind regards

NCAS Dawn til Dusk Charity Shoot 2021!

NCAS Dawn til Dusk Charity Shoot 2021!

Hello everyone,

As you know when I organised the NCAS charity shoot in 2019 I told you all that I would repeat the madness in 2021.

My aim, if the pandemic allows, is another dawn to dusk shoot as we had great fun and the sessions allowed people to do as much or as little they wanted.

This year we will be raising money for Cransley Hospice (dear to the hearts of many in the county for care of members of our archery family), again the East Midlands Air Ambulance (as we spent the money we raised on an emergency at an archery field in the county) and Young Minds which is a charity aimed at supporting children and young people’s mental health.

So I would like you to firstly, take a look at your calendars in 2021 and I would like to set the date for the end of June – let me know if there are any issues that I might need to avoid. Also, if the pandemic prevents it as the dawn to dusk format please have a think of ideas if we need to do something a little different.

Wishing you all a healthy 2021 and hope to see us all back out shooting soon.
