NCAS Dawn til Dusk Charity Shoot – 29th June 2019

Northamptonshire County Archery Society are putting on a charity Dawn til Dusk shoot on the 29th June 2019.

The shoot will be kindly hosted by Wellingborough Open Archery Club at The Old Grammarian’s Memorial Sports Field.

The event will be a “Dawn ’til Dusk” shoot starting at 05:30 and running through to 21:00. The archers involved will raise money through sponsorship by shooting sessions throughout the day. There will be 5 sessions shot throughout the day. Sessions 1 – 4 will be National Rounds (6 dozen arrows over 2 distances) and Session 5 will be a Warwick Round (4 dozen arrows over 2 distances).

Our aim is to have as many archers from within the county as possible to take part and contribute to this event, to help us achieve our target for the 3 chosen charities.

The link is also what you will need to forward to your sponsors to allow them to donate electronically. Your sponsors will be given the option of leaving a message and can add that it is on your behalf there if they wish to.

Why a target of £12,000? When contacting the charities to ask if we could fundraise for them Northampton General Hospital advised that they wished to raise funding for a special cot for babies with respiratory problems and that these cots cost £2,000 each – why fund one if we can fund two?

This helped us to set the target at £12,000 because £4,000 for each charity would see 2 cots for the unit. When looking at what this might mean for the other chosen charities we were surprised to read that our local air ambulance service averages 6 rescue missions per day and each mission costs approximately £1,700 so we might help keep that air ambulance in the air for half a day with £4,000.

We are grateful for all donations that we receive, but don’t let the target affect your decision. If we are fortunate to be in a position where the target is reached we would still like you to donate as much as you can afford so that all 3 charities receive as much support as we can give them.

For anyone who took part in the Remembering Chris Mason Dawn til Dusk shoot back in 2015, this was a truly fantastic day. Hopefully this event will be just as enjoyable and succesful.

Chris Mason Dawn to Dusk Endurance Shoot

Well what a perfect day, I’m sure all of you who managed to attend would agree!

We started setting up at about 4.30am and the shoot got underway at about 6.15am. Angie Bray and James Mason started the shoot with both of them symbolically shooting at a Cancer Research target, it was the ideal way to start the day and I must say Angie’s shot was fantastic.

We had 17 target bosses up and all of them were being used from the off, with over 30 archers there from the beginning, more archers arrived throughout the day to take part. In addition lots of old and new friends turned up throughout the day to say hello, see how we were doing, help out and donate further funds. Bacon rolls, burgers and hot dogs were served throughout the day together with a rather nice range of home made cakes that had been donated to the event. Both archers and visitors were extremely generous in their donations for the food, I saw one person donate £20 for a hot dog for example. The weather was fantastic, a little bit windy which is ideal as it gave us all the excuses for bad shots and lovely and sunny, although it did leave us all a bit red in the face by the end of the day.

Lots of archers took part for at least part of the day, some shot as teams for the whole duration, we would love to mention all of these people by name but haven’t the space here, and a hard core of individuals managed to literally shoot from Dawn to Dusk, these people deserve a role of honor: Martin Ross, Alex Ross, Andrew Lockwood, Luke Jeffery, Tom Taylor, Dave Quemby, Bob Kaminski, Dean Edwards, Kate Baker, Morgan Baker, Millie Baker, Jeremy Beasley, Jennifer Beasley, Stuart Chappell, Mick Lovell, Dave Birch, Joe Burlington, Dave Williams and Glenn Taylor. Of all the archers mentioned a special comment must be made of the three juniors who shot the whole day, Alex 14, Morgan 11 and Millie only 9, they were about the only three who didn’t grumble and I think could have easily carried on for longer!

In addition to the archers we were backed up by some great people for the whole day, Heather Bayliss judged for the entire time, Geoff Denny helped set up & take down in addition to being the master of the metal detector looking for arrows and shot at least one round (yes shot!) and Allison and Jack Taylor cooked all of the food and made all the drink throughout the day (with a little help from their friends along the way).

We drew the day to a close (after shooting 3 Windsor Rounds and a short Warwick round, breaking county records along the way, a total of 354 arrows over 15 hours ,as much of our time was spent looking for arrows as shooting them), with the fantastic, hair on the back of the neck, sight of all the remaining archers collectively shooting at 2 Cancer Research targets. Followed by Angie and James shooting 2 final arrows into the Cancer Research logos, a fitting end to, as Angie said, “a perfect day”.

The scores are now available, thanks to Dean Edwards for their preparation.

We would like to thank a few individuals/clubs who made this event all possible: Andrew Lockwood managed the fund raising, Martin Ross, Ian Adkins and Long Buckby Archery Club for organizing the event, Dave Quemby, Rob Marshal & Bob Fricker, who not only shot but helped set up the day before, throughout the day and at the end (special thanks to NAC for the loan of their fantastic gazebo) and NCAS for their support. I know we haven’t mentioned every individual who helped but we did really appreciate everybody who contributed, take a look at the excellent pictures and you will see who was there.

Finally I would like thank the one person who the whole event was about – Chris Mason, Chris touched all of our lives and it was testament to the effect he had on all of us that we wanted to be there to celebrate that we were privileged to have known him, and in some cases he even touched the lives of people who didn’t know him and they wanted to be there too. In return Chris rewarded us all with perfect weather for a perfect day, thank you my friend.

What a weekend and what a fantastic effort by all of you. Thank you so much for supporting Chris’ Endurance Shoot. By joining together we have raised a phenomenal amount of money in Chris’ name for Cancer Research UK, full details to follow once we have a total.

For those of you that raised money using the sponsorship forms it is now time to collect that money in. Once you have collected all your sponsorship money you should pass it to Martin Ross along with your sponsorship forms. If you are not going to see Martin in person, you can post your sponsorship money and forms to him at the address below. To maximise the money we raise, we want to claim as much Gift Aid as possible from your sponsors. Dawn til Dusk Archery Challenge this Saturday!

The Dawn to Dusk archery challenge in memory of Chris mason and raising money for Cancer Research is real gathering pace and we have just broken our new adjusted target of £5,000, which is fantastic, who knows what we can now achieve.

I would like to say a very special thank you to Mario Stankovic and the team at EMAS who have today donated £250 to our fund raising efforts, which is fantastic news!

Individual archers, clubs, archery shops (Merlin have donated £250), NCAS and now EMAS working together to remember our friend Chris and to raise funds to help put a stop to this dreadful illness.

Dawn til Dusk Archery Challenge – who’s taking part?

With just over a week to go, things are gathering momentum for the Dusk til Dawn Archery Challenge in memory of Chris Mason!

To give Long Buckby AC a fighting chance with the organisation – how many bosses we need, refreshments etc… would you please let Martin Ross know ASAP if you are taking part. If you are organising a team on behalf of your club, please let Martin know how many of your members will be going to the event and for how long. At present lots of people are saying they are coming but haven’t notified Martin, so it could be between 50 – 100 people turning up. I know it’s difficult to pin numbers down but if you could give Martin an estimate that would be great.

There will be a raffle on the day and if anyone would like to donate a prize would you let Martin know that too please and if anybody has got a pink bag to donate that would be excellent!
