County Squad & Team Selection

The County Squad is formed from archers who have reached 1st class classification and above (except for longbow; lower classification requirement).

Selection for inter-county competitions is based on scores achieved shooting rounds that include the maximum distances for ladies gents and juniors according to age.

The selection committee is made up of 1 representative from each of the county clubs, the county captain, will send out a reminder to those β€˜Representatives’ and the junior squad rep and a member of the county committee.

At this point all the names put forward will be looked at and a 1st draft of the squad will be sent out to the representatives to approve of the selection or pass comments. At this point No invites have been sent and the final team has not been selected.

After discussions have taken place the final draft will be sent to the Club Reps, and the invites will be sent out.

If your club does not currently have a representative then please see if someone is willing to take the role on.

Several Inter county competitions are held every year, these can be found on the county Calendar.

While the selection committee will be aware of scores attained during county competitions, archers shooting competitions outside of the county, or during target day rounds at their clubs, should send their scores to the county captain: Martin Ross

The selection of junior archers is also based on performance and again, archers shooting in competitions which are held outside of the county should pass their scores on to either the county captain or to the junior representative or there club representative, so that they can be considered during the selection process.

In all the above there has been a mention of scores the other factor that I consider is the individual, do they follow the rules not just the shooting rules but the etiquette & behaviour outlined by our governing body?

After all they are representing themselves, coaches, their own club & us as a county. Not only I’m I looking at the archer’s conduct we have to also consider the coaches & Parent/Carers behaviour and how this reflects on us as a county and the sport.

All rules of behaviour and conduct can be found on the Archery GB page.

Inter-County Competitions

Northamptonshire take part in six inter-county tournaments during the year. One tournament is held indoor and five outdoor.

Of the outdoor tournaments one is limited to junior archers and one limited to seniors (juniors can be selected for this but will shoot the senior round).

In the competitions against Bedfordshire, Leicestershire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire the number of archers scores selected to count are occasionally varied from those shown when a team cannot field a full side.
